    May 2008 - FirstView Pictures

This thread is for posting of FirstView pictures for the 1st of May, 2008. Please read the main About FirstView post, if you have not done so already. You may post only one image here, and it must have been taken on the 1st of May, 2008. Please remember to include the basic details - time and place of shooting, and what we're looking at. If you want to put in a short paragraph explaining what's going on, or why you chose that one, or whatever, then please do, but keep it brief and relevant. Any discussion beyond that can go in the 'Comments' thread. Please do not post comments or other replies here - they will be deleted. This thread is for FirstView image posting only.

The picture thread will remain open for a few days in the first instance, so please try to get your contributions in promptly. People who are perhaps away from home, or need time for film processing, or are otherwise unable to post their images in the initial time slot should pm me - I'll re-open the thread later in the month for late additions. In all cases please remember that the forum image posting rules apply (see the 'POSTING IMAGES' sticky post, which can be found in the Appraisal Gallery).

Finally, once again I would like to draw your attention to the new FirstView Gallery site - we would like as many contributors as possible to make use of this for hosting their FirstView images in order to maintain as complete an archive as possible for the future. Of course if you prefer not to you are still welcome to contribute to the FirstView threads with images hosted elsewhere.

    What the duck?

The last two mornings we've woken up to find a pair of mallards camped out on what is laughingly described as our front lawn. I couldn't believe it yesterday, and cursed my luck that it wasn't today. And this morning - BINGO!

So, my front lawn, 7.45 a.m., Ixus i Zoom.

    Not just another desk pic...

...it's a *new* desk I put together yesterday!
Please admire the tidyness of the shelves, and the minimal clutter (quiite proud of that, I'm positive that debris will inevitably accumulate)
I would have posted a pic of Mrs. Sparrow coming out from under the roof (a couple of House Sparrows are usning the former Blue Tits' nest), but she was too fast for me.
    So, new desk it is.

    Squirrel Proof

Squirrels have found our bird feeders and destroyed them, so we've bought a couple of squirrel proof feeders, let's see how they fare.

    Re: Election Day

I kinda planned this one and not. I was thinking of a reflected shot of me shaving 1st thing in the morning 1st of May and then when the morning came, I heard something going through the mailbox and I thought it would be interesting to get something different and get me reading a paper while shaving. Surprise, surprise it was a local paper and it was 1-2 days late with a bit on the elections!BINGO! Slightly misfocused though but I still can't complain. Enjoying my new pocket compact.

    Taken with Canon IXUS 70.

Got bored waiting the downloading of Knoppix to be completed. Just look at my gleaming clean Linux testbed machine...a mere 2 months old!

Don't like the look of this

Signs of water ingress through part of the roof of my house - we've had an awful lot of rain here in the last day or two. Hopefully it's not an indication of worse to come. :-(

That's all very well but what does Ken Rockwell have to say on the matter?
