    Multimedia Storage Device

I am rapidly running out of hard disk space on my laptop and i am for ever worried about losing all my pics, so i have decided i need to back up/move my pics to a storage device.
Has anyone one got any advice as to which one to buy?
I have been looking at a Vosonic VP5500 which looks like it may do the job? It looks a nice piece of kit with a removeable hard drive so it can be upgraded etc and RAW support as well.

Rather than a dedicated media storage device, why not get a couple of external hard drives? £200 for 80GB of storage (about right for the Vosonic) sounds rather expensive compared to THIS.

Consider buying one or more hard drives and separate enclosures. My favorite enclosures are Mapower which are beutifully made, come in nice leather wallets and available in Firewire as well as USB. If you go for 2.5" they are powered from the USB port(s) on your computer. Just make sure the drives match the enclosures, i.e. SATA and PATA.

If you want a ready made unit I use Lacie which usually have a Maxtor drive inside.

Oh, and Nod's suggestion is good value.

3.5" gives you more Gb for the buck than 2.5".

How about a couple of these or these?

I've got the FreeAgent and am (so far) very pleased with it. It's quiet, though it does have a fan, and also turns on/off with the PC. I bought it from Maplin for £75 in November, but I think I'd have gone for the My Book if the price was the same or close simply because they're stackable.

Cheers all for the advice, i have done my usual and made a list of pros and cons for both the hard drive option and the portable option and the thing that is swinging it for me at the mo is that the vosonic vp5500 has a compact flash slot so i can copy my pics to it when out and about and also view them on the move also it has a 2.5" removeable SATA hdd so if i need to upgrade it in the future i can.
Still shopping around but wont buy till im really sure.
    Once again thanks to all.
