Difficult shot into the sun

Used a strong (3 stop) ND grad filter on this and I am not sure if I like the way the sun has come out. It still seens over-exposed and undefined to me. I would welcome any feedback on the image and the techniques used or needed in photoshop to improve.

You want to actually see the shape of the sun? That might take more than an ND8 to accomplish! I think you need to stop down more, maybe you could stack more ND filters on there? You could then take another shot that's exposed for the terrain and combine them in post (Cause it's already kind of dark).

Well, that's how I'd do it anyway.

I am very pleased you all like it. I am not really sure how I want the sun to look now I think about it!
