I have a Lunasix 3, it still has the old mercury batteries in it, but it's very accurate, and I believe you can get hearing aid batteries from Boots that are 1.4 volts that will work in it with a washer around them. Having said that I also have an old Leningrad 4 selinium cell meter that works perfectly too. Apparently if you leave the old selenium cell meters in sunlight for a few hours this can "recharge" them.

I'm looking at a Lunasix 3 as it's available at a good price, but I note that it was designed for mercury batteries. I assume the adjustment screw that beejaybee mentions would be sufficient to adjust for voltage differences when using non-mercury batteries?
No, you cannot adjust the mercury celled Lunasix 3 for non-mercury batteries: it doesn't adjust that far, and even if you try, the meter becomes non-linear at one end of the scale. Gossen make an adapter that costs about £19 from the importer or a good shop (I recall Warehouseexpress used to list them). Or send the meter for a full service (to Germany via Johnsons Photopia) for c. £80 and I believe they include an adapter. My 3S is as good as any newer digital meter since its service.

I think Park cameras have the adapter for the Lunasix3 at £21 99 inc batteries. See http://www.parkcameras.com/ProductDe...productID/5270

I got one from Patterson when they were distributors, and it works well(within a third of a stop). I think the Luasix 3s is just the same meter supplied with the adapter.

Used to have a Lunasix myself (before it got nicked ) Fantastic meter - it could measure light passing through your hand. Used it with my old RB67. Never had any problems with it. College had loads of Sekonics, they were good as well - used these for flashmetering.

Consider the Lunasix F. It takes PP9 (those 9 volt rectangular ones). Only shortcoming I've found is that you need to remove the battery when not in use as it just drains it.

If you just want something simple, try this:
