hi all,saw this in a shop earlier today.seemed a very good price.it looks in excellent condition too.
any thoughts about this camera guys,i would not mind having
a go with it.

They are nice cameras capable of good photos. Aperture priority metering. They are battery dependant which was originally a 5.4v mercury but is easily replaced with a modern 6v silver oxide and a bit of packing (or you can buy a custom converter).

With a good battery installed check that all the lights, top plate and viewfinder, light as expected and the test button illuminates the frame counter. You should easily hear the different shutter speeds (1/500 down to about 30 seconds)if you point the lens at varying light sources. It will cost more to fix than it's worth if the electronics have failed. It will probably need new door light seals - but this is easy job.

While you are unquestionably right in general about the electronics the most common problem is corrosion of the negative lead from the battery compartment and this isn't too bad to fix.

I still use mine occasionally and look back at pictures I took of the now grown up kids and still am satisfied with the quality. Lens is a pretty good f1.7 and the camera was originally sold on its low light capabilities - there was a classic advertising campaign featuring candlelit photos.

Yes, that lead is sometimes corroded off at the terminal and it is easy enough to fix if the top cover and rangefinder are removed. I had some photos on my website of the procedure once - not sure if they're still there though.
