Zenit SLX... what on earth is it?

Looks like a Zenit 11 to me. has the same coupled meter and very similar layout.

Ive seen one of these on E-bay and I am considering buying it to add to my collection of Russian camera's. thing is, ive never heard of it and I cant find it in the Jean Loupe Princelle book on Ruski camera's.

Anyone here ever heard of it?

    Hi,

seems like you're spot on. I found this site

    http://www.g-st.ch/privat/kameras/zenit.html

Scroll down to the section Namensvarianten, last model in the table is a Zenit SLX which appears to be a Zenit 11 for the UK market.

I found that site too. It's weird that it's supposed to a variant of the 11 for the UK market. I've seen thousands of 11s but I'd never seen or even heard of an SLX.

Here's the camera... I do wonder if the SLX badge has not just been stuck on!

It does look as if it's stuck on right enough

I looked on loads of Russian camera sites as I'm sure you have yourself but the one above was the only mention. It's not in the McKeowns book either.

It might be worth buying, it's not as if it's supposed to be a rare prototype that would make it worth faking so it's probably genuine but unusual, maybe it was a model designation that was tried for a short time only. The Zenit name in ordinary Type rather than Cryllic would suggest an Export model wouldn't it? (only guessing )
