    New message flags

The new message flags do not appear to be working consistently.

I am getting no "new message" indicators in the Main Index, while several of the individual forums are showing new messages. Some threads continue to show new messages where there are none.

It may be a confusion caused by the moderation set up i.e. messages posted but awaiting moderation and not yet visible.

I hope it is teething troubles, because I am really not sufficiently patient to do all the to-ing and fro-ing that seems to be required to check the whole site.

I guess I will leave it for a few days to see what happens, but if this is the permanent situation then I don't think it is for me.

I hope it gets sorted because most of the set up works very well indeed.

    Chris,

Click on main index (forum list), scroll to the bottom and there is a 'recent posts' facility

Yes - I found it, but how does that help me to know which ones I have already read?

Ah! thats exactly what i was trying to say here

I cant be checking inside every room to see if it has new mail every 5 minutes, I need to know straightaway in the Index or it gets frustrating and pointless. It worked fine in the last board so dont know why it shouldnt be able to do it here.

    Re: New message flags

It would be interesting to have a comment from Paul.

I really have not got the "new message" flags figured.

They appear at three levels? Main menu, forum and thread and they do not (for me anyway) work in consonance.

Not only that, but at thread level, messages that I know I have read resume their "new message" flag on a regular basis.

All this makes an effective search for "real" new messages difficult and very time wasting.

I am hoping that this is teething trouble (or that I have set things up wrongly), but if not, it's a big no-no for me.

I usually log on several times a day on the assumption that it will take minutes at each visit. At present it is taking longer for one visit than I used to use for several. . . . .

    Hi Erm,

Check out Paul's reply to my "any thoughts" query. This seems to have solved it.

    Re: New message flags

Erm - I have discovered a routine that seems to keep things tidy and synchronised.

Read everything in flat mode and when you get to the bottom of the page use the "jump" function to get out. Unlike the old site, the new one links "jump" to the forum that you are in currently.

    It seems to work, but I don't know why . . . . .
