    Nice low key portrait, with an interesting expression, but the hair does merge into the background rather - unless it's those strange light streaks in the top left corner?

    Thank you very much for your input. It is hair inded that pops out in the upper left.

    Maybe try a little gentle dodging to lift the shadows at the back of the head and connect them to the rest of his head. Or else clone them out altogether.

    This may be an artefact of Photobucket's compression - it might look better on the full size file.

    Thank you very much for the suggestion. I tried crooping it but it swallows some of the dark area, therefore much of the lower right end, which I consider necessary to enhance the mood and facial expression.

    That looks better to me.

    Perhaps it's one you can come back to as your skill in editing improves.
