Google Chrome Sound Problem

Something has recently gone wrong with the sound on my Google Chrome.

The wife (honest) plays Facebook games. For some reason the sound has gone very distorted and squelchy. It's also the same if I play a Youtube video on Chrome. Playing the same games or videos on Internet Explorer is fine. No problems at all.

What can be wrong?
I've tried Googling it but can't find anything to help much.
Please bear in mind I am a bit of a computer dummy..!!

My mate mentioned the same thing today - It'll probably be fixed quick with an update (I think Chrome does silent updates?)

Yup, seems like it's been acknowledged and some workarounds suggested:

(Summary: make sure your sound is set to 'stereo' in Windows, rather than quadrophonic/5.1 etc)

Fix is out in the next stable Chrome release
