I love Leica more than Phase One. The S2 should be a terrific camera. It seems that it will be available very soon. (http://www.imaginginsider.com/?p=97594).

Pricing in July and should therefore be on target for a September launch. It will certainly liven the MF market up but I do hope that their statement that pre-orders have met target is true and that we are not kept hanging on too long after that date. I would also love to see what the digital solution is for the 'R' lens owners.

Not sure this should come as much of a surprise. Leica and Phase One are competitors in this rarified end of the market and the breakdown of the relationship is probably the strongest indication we can have of how good the Leica S2 is going to be. Why help a competitor bring a ground-breaking product to market if it's going to wipe the floor with you?

Another lesson for Leica though. In spite of all the weasel words about partners, relying on other companies for your core technology is risky if those companies have different or conflicting agendas to your own.
