At home waiting for a courier to arrive.
Not a cloud in the sky, a cool breeze and the sound of the birds tweeting in the trees.
I guess everyone is out enjoying the weather or busy working, as it's a slow day on the AP Forums.

I'm here, but I guess I'm slow anyway. I'm still off work sick, came off the anti-depressants and it's played havoc with my digestive system, in a lot of pain. If you're really bored Fen, you could build your own EOS-1Ds! (instructions)
It's been raining here most of the morning and I'm pleased the unbearable heat has relented.

Enjoying the weather! It's pis*ing it down over here in Northern Ireland and the light's as dull as can be! Still, at least you've got a nice pressie coming through the post to look forward to. What is it then? New flea collar? New squeaky toy? (He punctured the last one with his sharp fangs! )

Slightly off topic, but the pain you referred to Richard, is it gut pain like irritable bowel? Be interested to know as I currently suffer from that and I have an anxiety disorder though i don't currently take anti-depressants for it.

P.S. Tried to build the EOS 1Ds and ended up with an MTL3 and a lot of bits left over!

Yes, I've had IBS for many years and had it under control with diet/exercise. The Citalopram that I've been on for the last 18 months is also supposed to help some people with IBS. I've come off it very slowly and the IBS symptoms have increased to the point now where it's painful, almost passing out. I also think my stress levels are elevated because I have a grievance to submit to my employer (caused the stress in the first place). It's a vicious circle.
I tried making the camera and ended up with a ferkin flower!

Thanks for that Richard. I was on cipralax for a while and I may have to consider going back on it as my irritable bowel is killing me at present (especially in the mornings). It seems we are similar in more ways than one (both suffer from depression, both sex gods, both incapable of building an EOS 1Ds! )

Chums, I was a slave to IBS for 10 years, to the point of carrying Colofac and Immodium Instants everywhere. The pain was sometimes awful. But first attack I had with my new lady, a clinical psychologist, sorted me out. 90% was mental. Yes I still have IBS and I can irritate it if I go walking too soon after lunch, but it is now very minor. That from a position of being afraid to get on a tube train in case it stopped too long, or to get stuck in a traffic jam. I rarely take Colofac now unless I know I am going to be under pressure.

Ok Mike, short of having an extra-marital relationship with a female clinical psychologist (which I'm entirely willing to try btw ) what's the secret to controlling it mentally? If it avoids medication then I'd love to give it a go!

Ok - I'm interested in the answers too, as my IBS is playing up at the moment. When it gets bad, I'm sick as well - all my dinner came back up after an hour on Tues evening.
I was thinking of going to the Dr's. What's Colofac ?
It causes havoc with going out for sunrises too.
Lisa.

Doc has got me on some pill for dodgy guts too...just ones to take occasionally. Didn't like the anti-depressants though. I got lost walking along the railway line the other day after taking them...forgot where I was Twice!
Doc said if I didn't want to take the happy pills she'd send me on psychowotsit councelling or something...but that takes a while and there's a waiting list

Well answering all who have asked for more, first Colofac is the proprietary name for Mebeverine which is a powerful muscle relaxant. Two of them and your stomach goes to sleep. Just don't let it get stuck in your throat. Doctors prescribe it for IBS, because the whole thing foxes them and mebeverine gets them off the hook - and you onto their hook. There was a huge shortage a couple of years ago and you couldn't get it, which is when I started to decide I shouldn't be living on them. When I got terrible pains that cut me in half it was hard to believe that these were mentally induced by panic, but over a few weeks I began to accept they were. I was told "you can always hold it" and I tried a few experiments to prove to myself it was true. It is a gradual process, but it works. You need a psychologist in the right discipline (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy will do), unless you save money by taking my word for it. I still keep pills in my bag, but rarely ever take them and I was living on the things.

Yes that was the worst for me and would still carry pills if I was out very early. But if you have to take pills, just make it mebeverine and never more than two in the morning and one before lunch. Take them at least 1/2 hour before eating. Ideally, don't get as dependent as I did, but you won't be screwing your body up if you do, like with some things.

I've learnt a lot from this thread about irritable bowel syn.
For one I didn't know it caused depression (i guess the prolonged pain and discomfort causes this) or am reading it right that the depression is a symptom of the syndrome?
Also for those asking questions that haven't been to the doctors, my brother had IBS and he was told that it was the tomatoes in his diet that were causing the issue. Just thought I would mention it may help others avoid the irritable bit in future. All tomatoes were disqualified! No bolognese, no cheese+tomato sandwiches, no pizza etc etc.
He's much better now, and I think he can eat the tommies again without spending the rest of the day on the john!

If you are off the citalopram have you tried buscopan for the IBS? Buscopan is available OTC (I think) and it's active ingredient is hyoscine which is found in corks, so you could try chewing on a cork or if that doesn't work you can stick the cork somewhere else
Peppermint is also meant to help. You could try a peppermint infusion.

It doesn't cause depression, but can be some people's reaction to something that in others might cause depression, so there is a link. I was in a very bad marriage, with constant stress. Some people get shingles, some lose their hair, we get rotten guts. All the same thing. The tomatoes rationale can be total cods. My son has same and was told it was sweetcorn, so he avoids that and is OK. Whatever they tell you, if you believe it, will give you confidence and appear to work. But a therapist will get you off that too.
