Why the surprise? Kodak have been chipping away at Kodachrome's foundations for years.

Sales may have fallen, though I'd bet that the reduction of labs to process the work down to a single one in the US (and the consequent time it takes to get done) in the last year or two have as much to do with it as digital's impact.

Kodak seem to have made a decision to let film die a death, unlike Fuji who currently seem quite determined to keep it going. Their film range now is quite limited in comparison to Fuji's and I would imagine we'll see a gradual whittling down of those still available-perhaps Kodak's management find it embarrassing to make old-fashioned film in the digital age?

Could that be because they don't make any digicams?

is AP going to run a special feature on it (e.g. iconic images), before peoples chances to get hold of a roll or two has finally gone?
