I'd rather they sent some of the models he's shot! Having said that, my inappropriately scheduled holdiay has put paid to any chance of me being there.

.....and see legendary photographer David Bailey - at a free event in Jessops flagship London store on Thursday.
I wonder if he'll open the closing down sale as well...??

His adverts with Paddy Lichfield for the OM1 and OM2 were pretty good back in the day. Rough diamond and sophisticated bon viveur both coming together to use cameras which, to my eyes, were little diamonds when compared to the giants otherwise available at the time.

I think it was Oly's fantastic advertising that helped get me interested in photography in the first place. the Sunday Times used to have terrific pics in the mag, and OM ads as well, and the combination meant Olympus was always what I wanted back in the day. They're doing a great job of recreating some of that buzz now, IMVHO.

I agree. I've also seen Panasonic's ads on the telly for the G1 which should help raise the profile of the MFT format.
We shouldn't under estimate the power of style either. When I was in the market for a compact for my wife she picked one in the window out which she particularly liked for the brown leather case. Of course it was a Leica (C-lux 3 I think) and way above our budget, but if we'd had the money ... we'd have bought the Panasonic version and a third party case!

I didn't know Bailey was still alive. Does anyone know what happened to Lichfield?

Yes and I see that Donovan has gone. Bailey is only five years older than me so I should expect him to be very much alive and active. The 60s and 70s seem a long time ago.

My favourite part of the Q&A with David Bailey tonight: "David, will you convert to digital?" "No it's 10x8 for me". Queue embarrassed faces from Jessops and Olympus staff promoting the new digital camera.
As for the EP-1, effectively a consumer M8 with no viewfinder. Much prefer my 35RC!

I think a lot of people also missed that he dropped the camera when signing an autograph and didn't make much case of it . He did sound more enthusiastic about my Zorki though I have to say , he asked questions about it, if I still used it and said it was a very lovely piece of kit. Then, he signed it for me

OK, he also asked if I was gonna sell it on Ebay, but this is a keeper I don't sell my cameras anyway. I gotta find a way of preserving his signature on it.

Luis! Glad to hear you got it signed!
I did love it when Bailey dropped the EP-1 though! Beautiful moment, not to mention him describing digital as fine for reportage and "holiday snaps", or using the F-word a few times on camera
Definately made me smile!

Hi Tom, it was nice to meet you.
Yes, I am well chuffed that he signed it! But what this may mean is, that I need to get another Zorki as this is one probably gonna stay at home now! Worse, I have a roll of process paid Sensia in it that I didn't even get to use!
