Epson Scanner problem (esui.dll & solution) - won't scan to file
      #802841 - 19/06/2009 13:35

Just in case this weird problem hits other users: Using my Epson 4870 scanner this morning, I scanned one A4 document to file, and then immediately when trying to scan others, got the Microsoft error report message, Report to MS, send or not? (I tried all the usual - checked connections, re-installed the Epson scanner software, deleted the latest new application installed this morning, and was thinking of re-installing Windows XP)
It was happy to Scan to Print direct, but not to File, and trying via the Photoshop import feature didn't work either, but a different error message.

The error report listed the "esui.dll", and Googling on this I came across this thread and to my surprise it suggested removing the last saved image (corrupted), in .bmp format. The info in the thread isn't quite correct, replace "application data" for "program data", open the folder, and delete the last scanned bmp. It took me some time finding the folder - I expect it's hidden. I had no problem opening the offending bmp in my standard image viewer, FastStone MaxView.

Anyway, It worked. Phew! (I've got lots of scanning to do.)
