Ring flash adapter - anyone tried it?
      #802574 - 18/06/2009 21:59

HI

I've been looking at the item below on ebay.

web page

Anyone here got one? Any thoughts on likely power loss from it? Used with a 580ex how useable is it likely to be?

Am thinking of using it for a little fill flash with a second off camera flash.

Likely to be a waste of money?

I have a home made one that is very effective:

(I think this is what got me my Blue Peter forum title)

So given how well my home made one works i would imagine this would be a bit better.

[edit] Mine costs me at least 2 stops of power, but as i use it in close with fast lenses that isn't an issue. Further out it works fine as a fill light, though i much prefer to get in close and use it as key.

[edit No.2] and here's an example

So Geoff - did you get one in the end? Would love to know what you think of it, as looking at these too.
