I am puzzled that when I click "Merge Visible" in Photoshop 7 layers, nothing seems to happen the first click but it successfully merges at the second attempt. It only seems to happen with text layers visible & other layers not visible. Looking in history I find an entry "Stamp Visible". The image does not change in any way. I am not clear what this is - it does not seem to be anything to do with the "Stamp" filter. I suspect it could be software corruption & reinstalling Photoshop would cure it but everything else seems OK, & I would be interested to know what "Stamp Visible" is.

I have just typed it into 'Help' in CS3 and got nothing at all. Try that in your own help dialogue or failing that try - clicking here

Thanks for your reply - I followed the link & it seems to be something to do with watermarks. I'd already looked in help & the manual without luck. It doesn't really matter to me but I was intrigued to know what was happening.

Further to the reply from Parisian, I googled & found the explanation on a website (photoshop.weblogsinc.com) - an undocumented command (Crtl-Alt-Shift-E) makes a new layer composed of all the visible layers. It is now apparently improved in CS3.

You will find that if you go Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E+N you will find it also works in PS7, at least it did when I had PS7 some years ago.
