I'm organising an event for the British Heart Foundation in Keswick this weekend (6 June) for 300+ walkers.
We would really like a photographer to come along - it'd be great for anyone who wants to get some event photography experience and there's also a good chance your work will be featured on promotional materials and campaigns in the future for BHF one of the UK's biggest charities.
It goes without saying too that this is a beautiful part of the world with spectacular views. The event itself takes in two of the Lakes best loved Fells - Skiddaw & Blencathra.
Anyone interested, please post a reply and I'll get in touch, Karen

Ah, the old 'tap the amateurs, they'll do it for nowt' ploy...
BTW: One post is enough, thank you. Might have been a good idea to at least browse the forum guidelines before spamming us.

Not at all, If anyone is interested in helping then we will be more than happy to pay a fee as we usually do with our event photography.
My usual guy has had to pull out of the event and I thought I'd have a better chance of reaching someone local through your forums with a genuine interest in event photography.
If you think this is spam and of no interest to your users then I'll just delete it and hire someone direct.
Thank you

Perhaps a mention of that in your initial gambit would had put a different light on it. How much is that fee, i.e. what do you usually pay the chap who's let you down?
PS We consider more than one post on the same issue tantamount to spam, as per the forum guidelines...

As an individual I'd prefer to know what the fees are before applying for any work.
Rates for this sort of job are normally advertised along with the requirements aren't they?

Right, let's start negotiating then... NUJ high end corporate* rates begin at £1500 per day. How close are we...?
* Being '... one of the UK's biggest charities' I'd say that puts you in the high end.

Pardon me for breaking ranks a little here, but does it not perhaps make a difference that it's for a charity event? The British Heart Foundation is, I would have thought, a reasonably worthy cause. If someone asked for a photographer to help with, say, Children in Need, or whatever, would we be quibbling about fees?
It's a pity it wasn't a couple of weeks ago, as I would probably have been willing to help when I was up in Keswick on holiday, but it's clearly not practical to offer my services from Dorset. Hopefully someone more local can lend a hand.

Absolutely Huw...quite agree. If it wasn't in the deep south I'd think about it... I know we do have members who live in that part of he world. Maybe they would happily give up some time for a good cause?

Don't think it's breaking ranks Huw
If I was contacted by a charity to do take some photos for them I would (of course) reduce or even negate my fees (perhaps only charge for costs) and give them the photos as a 'gift'.
But for someone to call out like this I feel it's a "Get an amateur to do it for nothing rather than paying someone to take the photos"
I've done shoots for various charities in the past who wanted to pay and I've waived my fees, especially if it's a charity I believe in.

No, people would be arguing about the photo rights for the BBC Countryfile calendar

Not at all, we each see these things in a different light. But until it was raised there was no mention of the BHF being 'happy to pay a fee as we usually do'...
They may be charities, but in many cases they are BIG business too. CEO's on hansom salaries, along with an often top heavy admin team, premises in salubrious locations (the need for which I fail to see) etc. Yes, I know the argument; 'you get what you pay for in the charity sector', then does that not apply to photographers too? At least costs should be offered up front, rather than running with the chancer's charter approach...
I'm all for helping out the little charities of this world, local events benefiting the community, etc., and have done on more than one occasion. But this is more of a corporate thing IMO. After all, the BHF is 'one of the UK's biggest charities'!
Anyhoo, low end corporate rate (NUJ) £800 per day. Can't say fairer than that.

Indeed. And if there's a fee set aside, and the photographer agrees to waive it, then there's an acknowledged value to that contribution. But above all, it's simply a case of transparency, I feel.
