Hi. Ok this is a question for the photoshop wizz kids out there. I try to open the RAW files from my D40 onto photoshop CS2. I have a plugin but i don't know how to instal it and when i tried it didn't work. Why is this happening? Can I do anything to open my NEF files.
Am I compromising in image quality when I use the DNG converter.
Oh and my photos won't print from photoshop or anywhere from my rubbishy printer. Why?

You need ACR 3.7 from here and then after extracting the Camera Raw.8bi from the ZIP file
1. Exit Photoshop CS2. 2. Open My Computer. 3. Double-click Local Disk (C:). 4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back. 6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4. 7. Launch Photoshop CS2 or Adobe Bridge.
You'll need to give us more details about your printing problem.

You are a life saver. lol. Now i can delete all those silly DNG files.
About the printing. I hit print and nothing comes out. If i open a photo in windows media player it won't print, but i can send it down stairs to another printer on the network.
Is it a problem with the NEF files???? as windows wont open them.

A couple of points.
Why are you opening still images in Windows Media Player? WMP can't open raw files and there is no print option for JPGs. You may be able to download the necessary files from Nikon so that Windows will recognise and open your NEF files in explorer. Canon certainly provide the facility. If you can't find it in Nikon then there are 3rd party utilities that will allow you to browse NEF files in Windows Explorer. I don't think you can print raw files directly from Windows though but why would you want to? You have one of the best photo-editing programs available to you and you should printing from within CS2.

Yeah i agree, it was just when the NEF files didn't show on CS2 at the timew that i printed or attempted to print via windows.
Is it that my printer just doesn't have the credentials to print from CS2. it is a pretty bad printer, not a photo one. Its a lexmark Z738. Came with my laptop. lol
I will be upgradeing to a epson sx200. Will it print them????

CS2 can use whatever printers are set-up in Windows. If the printer works in Windows or within other applications it should work in CS2.
