I'm going to India but dont want to take my Cannon SLR
      #795286 - 25/05/2009 21:20

Hello,

I'm off to India for a two week holiday...I've been several times on business and usually have the peace to take staged photos but to be honest this time around I dont want to take my 35mm (as was) or Cannon EOS (as now) cause this time my wife and friend are coming also.
Question is - what is the most suitable pocket type camera around £200 which will take great photos with decent zoom for these human close ups from a distance etc

Help!

Alan

Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-TZ5 [Re: 900triple]

The Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-TZ5 has it all, and is now under £200 (cheap)

The TZ stands for Travel Zoom so is built to take the knocks - Review here

Hi Alan
I took my Panasonic FZ5 to India last year, it's a bridge camera so it's bigger than a compact but not as big as an SLR. It did a brilliant job, have a look at my photos

Hi julia - great photos, exactly what I'm looking to do...whats the difference between FZ and TZ5's?
Were all the photos from India taken with your FZ5? Any problems or -v's - delay between pressing the button and the photo being takem? Battery life etc????

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan the FZ is physically bigger than the TZ so that will limit your choice if you want a compact. The best advice is always - go to a shop and get touch feely with one. The FZ5 is an old model but there are later ones about. I have not used a TZ but they seem to be well thought of looking at the reviews.
There is a delay after clicking the shutter but it is so short that it did not cause any problems (not like my old Canon S40 which took pictures of the sea where whales used to be).
As far as battery life is concerned I cannot remember there being problems, but I had a spare with me.
Hope this helps

Wow this shows how things have moved in since I bought my FZ5. I must be getting old - I had not realised how long ago I bought it.
