I've recently sold my Fuji S9600 after 2 great years, I'm now looking at an upgrade, Fuji s100fs, nikon p90 or the canon sx1 - any advice on chosing a suitable camera would be appreciated.
I think the obvious progression is the S100fs, probably the best of the bridge cameras as long as zoom range isn't your highest priority (though with price to match).
However, you might well find an intro level DSLR would suit you. Most manufacturers have very user friendly models now, such as the Nikon D60, Canon 100D or Pentax K-m (which takes the same AA batteries as the S9600, and has in body anti-shake). You would need an aditional telezoom lens to get the range you had with the S9600 though, or an ultrazoom such as an 18-200 or 18-250.
I upgraded from my S9500 to a second hand Fuji S3 Pro a year ago and really appreciate it. It did take a bit of getting used to, despite having got really in to the S9500's manual controls and RAW, but I think modern DSLRs are a lot more user friendly. I still use the S9500 when I need something a bit more portable.
NIKON D3X VS SONY ALPHA 850
Both of these full-frame cameras from Nikon and Sony have more than 24.5 million pixels, yet the D3X costs around £3,100 more. Richard Sibley takes a look at each to find out what you get for the extra outlay
