Has anyone noticed the problem of unwanted lines on images, as described?
My G10 is on the list, but I have not seen anything yet.

mine's on the list, but i've not seen anything either, and since the recall i've been looking out for any issues in my pics.
i don't think i'll be sending it off to get looked at.

I contacted a specialist repairer, listed on the Canon site, the owner pays the carriage and insurance out but it is posted back free. The only downside is that it takes two weeks to come back.
Do I want my camera dismantled and rebuilt?? I'm not that keen really.
As I have only had it for a few weeks I may contact the retailer and ask for an exchange. Should be OK if the goods are faulty.

This is interesting, just out of curiosity how do they look? Because my A700 every now and then displays a similar problem but it only seems to happen with one lens, the Minolta 75-300. Some lines that appear in the same spot all the time but only when using this lens and at high ISO. I recall I showed our Roger here the problem and he was as confused as I was about it and nobody else reports this.
I am assuming it's a lens problem of some sort since it only occurs with the 75-300 and also it seems I was the only one reporting it (I went through 2 cameras when I bought mine,the first one had a different problem if I recall well and the second this very same problem I am reporting). If anyone has any examples, that would be great. My Sony is still under warranty, so if does have an issue, I'll send it off gladly and promptly since I have other cameras to work with.

If only the Minolta 70mm - 300mm produces the lines, then that should be the origin of your problem. Get it checked.

do they have to go back because it is a recall ?
what happens if it develops the fault 12 months down the road for example, will it still be covered ?

canon haven't contacted me about it, and if it wasn't for being on this site i wouldn't have heard about the recall at all. surely they can't discriminate against those who read the photographic press and those that don't...

AFAIK, no camera manufacturers contact customers about recalls. In fact possibly the only product where manufacturers DO contact you about a recall is cars. In the case of cameras, they notify the press and put something on their websites, and that's about it. Cameras and lenses aren't really recalled, merely have service fixes put in place FOC (which also happens to cars, but that's another story).
AFAIK, Canon don't limit the time on such repairs - I've got a 70-300 IS that's within the batch listed as being potentially defective on an issue going back several years. As it's never given me the problem, I've never had it fixed - but the notice is still on the website, and was updated last August.

There is a short article in this weeks AP, that is where I first saw it.
On the website, there is an example image showing the problem. It is a bit obscure and you probably wouldn't notice it in general terms.
The repair workshop said I could send it in anytime to suit me, if the camera was in constant use, so I do not think there is particular a time limit on this.

Yes I have seen the problem on the Canon website and it is different from the one I have with my Sony. It is odd as the only other camera that I have that did what my Sony does at high ISO and across the whole image is the Minolta Dimage A1. Anyway, back to the actual topic and thanks for your comments guys.
