This is the second of the classic Motor Cycling Club events of the year, which have been taking place since 1901. This year saw 561 entrants on two, three, or four wheels making their way from various parts of the country ending by chugging up some incredibly steep hills in Cornwall.
With a car full of togs we headed off to the other side of the Cornish border - some how I managed to take 990 RAW images! Here are a couple to whet your appetite – these are great events, if you are ever in the area and get the opportunity to photography one, they are well worth the effort.
Started the day at Hoskin Hill near Cardinham (just outside Bodmin) – this was a particularly slick piece of road and caused quite a headache to many of the riders/drivers – by this time these people had been driving for 15 plus hours...
1
The good thing with this hill was that it was very quiet, relatively small number of spectators made photography quite easy – a nice MG TA 2
A smoker - with some of the Togs in the background... This was a Marlin, many vehicles normal get around these events without too many problems, quite a number struggled with the slippery surface in this section... 3
Later in the day we moved over to the Blue Hills site at St Agnes, the skies were particularly impressive. The track meanders up through the old tin mine workings - A Cannon Alfa... 4
A smokin' beetle 5
A leaping Imp - This one was particularly prone to getting airborne, I have a similar picture of its belly from the trial in January! 6
A graceful MG J2 making it all look easy 7
A Triumph Sixpence - getting some air 8
Ford Pop going Pop 9
Escort 10
And finally, St Agnes is next to one of my favourite spots in Cornwall, Wheal Coates – made even nicer with the addition of a paraglider... 11
12 Variation...
It was yet another grand day out...

Colin you would have been proud of me, with all the action going on I was still able to work on my Bird in Flight technique!! Gary thanks for the comment – appreciated. A couple more for you - one of several BIF pics
Another part of the Blue Hills - gives a bit of an indication of the gradient
Did I say it was a tad steep
I thought this was a great images and really summed up the event

I saw all these crazy looking cars when I was going for a surf, I wondered where they were heading to.
Like the ones with their wheels off the ground!

Glad to see you have your priorities right, has been a good couple of days for a surf... The plan was to come back via Watergate Bay and get some surf/kite action, but the trial was running late – here is some air for you.

Hi John. You have posted some really classic shots here. The late afternoon sunlight has worked wonders producing great colours for the Blue Hills pix. ...But you have also managed to get some good colour into your morning shots too - and it was soooo dim in those thar woods!!
Thanks for a great day guys. What great fun it all was )
I am going to try and post a few of pix from the day tomorrow eve (hopefully).

Adrian thanks for the comments, I am looking forward to seeing your pictures!! It was a great day, the weather was so much better than expected, the low spring sun gave a magical quality to the light! - I have posted about 70 more pictures on the gallery section of my web site see - www.jfbclick.com – one final picture, while the cars are fun, I think these sidecar pictures really capture the whole “ethos” of the event...

I will take you next year, you will like the event as there are lots of bikes around, possibly not quite your sort of machine - but at least they were on two wheels...

I think my favourite is no 3, the rear view of the Marlin leaving the restart box on Hoskin - the cloud of tyre smoke and the sharp roost of dirt really makes it. You get some idea of the gradient, too.
