Being a Leica user, the micro 4/3rds format has an appeal, especially if an adapter is produced to take M mount lenses
Other Leica users will be familiar with the risk of shutter burn if the lens cap is left off in strong sunlight and the sun allowed to focus on the shutter curtain.
As the G1 has no physical shutter covering the sensor, or an optical viewfinder to direct light through the body, surely the same risk exists with the result being a wrecked sensor.
Can anyone confirm this risk?
Thanks

Sounds like a significant design flaw then.
I wouldn't expect a new camera design to come to the market in 2008 with such a potential problem

I think a lot of us are looking forward to this. Have you tried a G1? The manual focussing is very good using a dedicated lens, the camera automatically magnifies the view for critical focussing as soon as the focus ring is turned. I am told this won't happen with legacy lenses though.
It's a good point about the sensor burn. I remember reading in one review that Panasonic had gone for the open shutter system because the sensor is tougher than the thin metal shutter cutains.

Yes it's called an admin, just don't get yourself "ignored".
I just realised you are a newbie here. You'll have to get used to the forum environment here, it's unlike any other forum. In fact, replies like yours are the ones that can get you into trouble. In here people are in good spirits and in good humour, this is no Dpreview forum or anything of the kind, and it was within that spirit that I replied like that to your post.
Anyway, back to the topic, I am sure the manufacturer, particularly one like Panasonic, would have that sorted before shipping them out. I must say, I have seen two in LCE in red and one in blue and I don't think they are as ugly as they looked on paper. They are quite cute in fact, but the size would drive me nuts.

That has always been a potential problem with Leica M cameras - they could happily project a nicely focussed, perfectly corrected image of the sun onto the shutter and burn a hole in the shutter curtain and the film behind it.
Many P&S cameras do exactly the same - they have to if you want live view - so there's always the danger of burning the sensor if you point the camera at the sun.
BTW, the G1 does have a shutter - it's used to cover the sensor while the image data is read out of the sensor, so works in reverse to the conventional film shutter.
