The Casio pop-up!!
      #730950 - 16/11/2008 17:26

Not much to say about the above, but this infuriating pop-up on the website is really getting on my nerves!

As a exercise in futile advertising, it is masterful. If anything would put off buying one of those cameras (were I of that mind - which I am most certainly not!) it is this!

There have already been one or two comments posted at the time of it's debut, with responses from the Ads Team...

Can't we just move the casio pop up so it sits permanently over the Nikon forum.............................I mean let's face it........................who's going to miss that anyway!

or give Casio their own forum to discuss the popup, which need therefore not appear anywhere else.

Definitely - it's advertising gone horribly wrong. Understandable from IPC's pov (increased revenue) but idiotic from Casio's I fear. My view of Casio has gone DOWN since this blocker appeared square over the forums. Every time I see it, and have to 'x' it - my resentment against Casio grows.

Maybe it's been placed by another manufacturer to deliberately damage the Casio image?

One thing I noticed today was I couldn't close the advert on my iPod Touch. Of course for an age the site has promoted sensible image sizes to help mobile users use the site easier. However the site now has something worse (casio ad) and it prevents access to portions of the site (cos it seems to be hovering over certain topics).

Hopefully it shouldn't be a major issue as the iPod has to be wrapped up for Christmas. If it does return, my mobile browsing will be elsewhere.

The popup isn't a problem in IE mobile, Opera mobile or Opera mini.

Has it gone yet? Is it safe to browse these forums again? I'm one on whom the ad has severely back-fired as thanks to Casio, I've been avoiding this forum for a while, and will think very carefully about ever buying another Casio product again

It seems to have disappeared for me. Unless it uses cookies to see how often it has run. And it's giving me a day off.
