Replacement lens cap/cover
      #713781 - 03/10/2008 20:36

I'm trying to find a UK supplier (apart from Grays) that get me a replacement lens cap for the Nikkor 14-24mm

This is what it looks like:

It fits over the lens and doesn't clip onto the end.

Found somewhere in the US, it's cheap to purchase... but the shipping charges are way too much and they won't send it any other way.

Nothing. I already have a price from Grays. So rather than people suggesting Grays, I just wanted to see what alternatives are available

Grays - "the kind of service of which legends are made" (where's the fingers-down-throat emoticon when you need it?) - certainly know how to add their margin but to give them their due, most other dealers would just pull a face. I can just imagine trying to get one from some spotty youth in Jessops, where Grays probably have it in stock.

Go on, shock us, what's the damage? B&H are showing it at $16.95...

Have you tried posting a picture of it on a photography forum in hope that someone will reply saying: "I've got a couple of these knocking about in a drawer at home, I'll send you one for nothing" ...?

That way you might save a few quid having to buy one at Grays.... ?

Been looking some more...

Wherever I look the postage is $50 of more.

May as well go to Grays if there's nowhere else in the UK.

Why not drop Nikon a line and beg for one?

Tried that. They said go to Grays... or buy a Canon!

Well, both good bits of advice.

I lost the cap of one of my Voigtlander lenses once, and I asked the importer where I could buy a replacement - their response was to ask me which colour cap I wanted them to send me FOC. That's what I call service.

How much are Gray's asking for this thing anyway? Maybe we could have a whip-round, or even organise a charity auction or something?

It's not a matter of money. It was a general enquiry if anyone else sold them.

Perhaps you missed that?

No. Ever since the time that I was caught BBQ'ing one of his reindeer for our Xmas party he hasn't been in touch. Still see his daughter from time to time though.
