Nope... But a Digital X-Pan... YES PLEASE
Sure you wouldn't be tempted by a digital one of these Fen? ...
A Widepan? Why? They don't do a digital version.
Err, it was a hypothetical question.
A bit like asking how Bradford are going to do in the Grand Final...

Yes, I'd like DMF, but I can't see me ever being able to afford it. It would also have to be an easy handling system - the S2 looks good!

I used to love using medium format, especially the RB; big, heavy and slow to use. I would love a similar experience with digital but as a few others have mention, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it.

That looks nice! 160 MP tho! But imagine a large format digi. How many pixels on a 4x5 field camera? Must be close to a billion!

I'm surprised that the majority want one of these. Personally - and having no overriding reason for using one - my brief flirtation with medium format left me feeling that, for amateurs like me, it was neither fish nor fowl. It had neither the sheer usability of an SLR nor the slow, painstaking methodical style and unbeatable quality of large format.
Maybe a future poll could be:
If you could have only one camera body (saying nothing about lenses), would you settle for: * Film compact. * Digital compact. * Film SLR. * Digital SLR. * Film medium format. * Digital medium format. * Film large format.

I'm surprised that so many say they don't, TBH, but then I always liked MF film.

Well I can't speak for others, but it's just a logical distinction for me - I do (and did, before digital came along) different kinds of photography with different formats. Partly that's because of the different levels of detail and control that I want, and partly it's just because of the different way of working.
For example, the speed and high shot numbers numbers that are easily possible with digital suit street or wildlife, but are pretty much irrelevant for landscape. Likewise, the ultra-high resolutions, extreme dynamic range, and tonality of monochrome negative film suit landscape and other kinds of static pictorial shooting right down to the ground, but aren't so critical for street, and so on.

Likewise - and I still do, which is why I don't feel any real desire for a digital substitute. :-)

But would you want to deny those who might?
Amateur photography is a broad church, surely there's room for everyone, the availability of MF digital cameras doesn't stop your film cameras working.

What? Of course not. Where on earth did that question come from? The context of the discussion is the poll question: 'Do you want a digital medium format camera?' - nothing to do with preventing others from having what they want.

BJP reports that Hasselblad are cutting all their body prices by a whopping 40% - the latest issue isn't online at time of writing.

That's not going to make much of a dent in the price of a complete Digi-blad though - the body is the cheap bit. The back costs, what, eight or ten times as much? And the lenses are typically a couple of grand each too, apart from the standard - a snip at only about £1200! ;-)
Alternatively, you can get a superb brand new MF film system (camera plus several lenses) for about thruppence ha'penny - eg. a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD. Have you seen what new lenses for that can be had for nowadays? Makes me wince when I think what I paid for mine back in the 80s and 90s. :-( Or then again you could 'slum it' with, say, a nearly mint secondhand Bronnie, and someone will probably pay you to haul the stuff away.

My Bronica outfit is being sold in dribs and drabs at FFordes - and the money I'm getting for it is hardly paying my bar bill!

Sorry!
Don't know which Bronnie gear is yours, but for those who haven't followed the depressing demise of medium format film photography, here is what you can get for the price of a fairly ordinary P&S digicam. And that's from a reputable dealer, with a six-month guarantee and all the consumer protection you can shake a stick at.
