Hello all,
I've been using just the one lens (Zeiss 16-80mm) since I bought an A100 about a year ago - this was my first DSLR and I figured I'd learn how to use it and decide what types of photography I was interested in/any good at before splashing any cash on extra lenses.
My main interests are Landscapes and Nature photography, and I was wondering if anyone out there had used or knows anything about the Tamron SP AF70-200mm F/2.8 DI LD [IF] Macro (It got a pretty good review in AP a few weeks back - although not sure the Sony fit has been released yet)? Have also been considering the SP AF200-500mm F5/-6.3 DI LD [IF], which would seem like an obvious follow on in focal length from the 70-200. What's the general feeling out there about 3rd party lenses for Sony?
The Zeiss 16-80mm I've got is great for most Landscape work so I'm mainly looking for something for wildlife.
I'm tempted to wait and see what the price on the Sony 70-400 G series is going to be (and from what I've seen the 70-300 G series looks good). In general I'd rather pay a bit extra to get some quality gear.
Apologies for being a bit long winded. Any advice comments would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Some user tests of the Tam 70-200/2.8 here
I have mostly Tamron lenses, 17-50/2.8, 55-200/4-5.6, 70-300/4-5.6, 90/2.8 macro and some older adaptall 2 mount manual lenses, no complaints about any of them. All good value for money; Sony badge some of them and hike the price with minor if any performance tweaks like faster AF by changing the gearing on the 18-250.
All my shots at the BWC were taken with the Tam 70-300, see my posts in the Southern meet thread in the Exhibition lounge, not pefect mostly due to my less than steady hands, but for £110 worth of glass ............

So in the end I went for the Tamron SP AF70-200mm (there doesn't seem to be too many places stocking it in Sony fit yet). Not had chance to give it a full and proper try out yet. You know how it is with that damned thing called work getting in the way Initially it looks like a decent piece of kit. The images I've taken so far look great. Not too sure how good it will work with AF on my Alpha 100 - seems to track back and forth a lot before locking on (Is this down to the camera body rather than the lens though?).
Will try and get some pictures posted up soon for you folks to cast your eyes over.
Cheers,
Gareth.
