Hello Chris, I was intending to book a table for food as the pub isn`t massive and does get busy (so I`m told). Does 8.00pm sound reasonable??? As for equipment - I have an ageing digital SLR, two lenses and a tripod - that`s it! so it fits into a rucksack with spare fleece, food etc. I think you can bring whatever you are happy to carry. Hi Chris,
8 pm sounds fine for me. I will also be down early on the Friday just for a look around.

Does the pub get busy and were you thinking of booking a table for food Chris? I have the day off on the Friday so could get there whenever
I have Friday afternoon off and will leave work at 12 noon to come straight down, so I shouldn't be late. (hopefully, depending on traffic ) Lisa.
PS 8pm sounds good to me too - any later and I'll start gnawing my fingers.

Hi all - I'm not going to know my plans until much nearer the date as Mr Carole starts a new job next week and is likely to be up in london most days at the start. I am sure that if he is able to be nearer to home, or even at home, on the friday, he'll do that so that he can take over on kiddy-care and let me get away earlier. But most likely I will get over to the pub towards the end of the evening, so don't count me in for any meal.
looking forward to meeting everyone

I drove past Tintern Abbey last weekend, when I saw the post I thought I should mention that it currently has some scaffolding on some parts. I don't know how long it's there for hopefully it will be gone when you visit.
Cheers Simon

Yes Simon, the Abbey has had scaffolding on parts of it for a few years - it is part of a long term project which certainly will not have finished by mid October. You can still take photos of the Abbey, as for the scaffolding, isn`t that what photoshop is for....?? Chris

Yep, module 7 of this course is all about removing scaffolding from Tintern Abbey.... or something similar

I tried that with a photo of Hardwick Hall last year but gave it up as a bad job. Perhaps if we wait till sunset we could use the scaffolding in sillouette (?spelling) as a feature!? LDB

The next task is deciding what camera gear to bring along as I need to lighten my pack up considerably if I'm going to keep up with Chris.
I've taken a load of stuff out of my pack as I'm going to try and get some 'fungi' photos after work today - but the pack doesn't seem much lighter. I'm going to have to be ruthless with it. Lisa.

Oooooh - I'm suffering today! Why do fungi have to be so low down? My knees, legs and bum ache with all the kneeling and crouching down I did yesterday. Got a couple of good pics but I'm going to have to buy a fungi book as I haven't a clue what they are apart from 'puffball, bracket fungus and toadstool'. Also, got some funny looks (as usual) from passersby as was doing more than normal lurking in the undergrowth and behind dead trees. Lisa.

Hello folks, Hope everyone is ok for the meet-up. From now on I`ll start to keep an eye on the weather - not that I can do anything about it! At the moment it looks like it will be wet and mild. AP Chris - did you mention that you were buying film?? Maybe I`ll just bring a film camera for the weekend, a bit heavier and fiddly but it makes a nice sound. Chris

Hi Chris. What do you mean you can't do anything about the weather???!!
I'm bringing my waterproof stuff - it's keeps you warmer besides keeping the damp out. And thicker trousers rather than the cotton stuff I've been wearing recently.
Ohh - not long now. Trees are going to be lovely, weather will be nice, ground will be soggy - here endeth my predictions. It's getting flippin dark earlier and earlier, where's that wind up torch? Lisa.

Just means we can adjourn to the pub sooner
Hi Chris, yes I'm planning to bring film and 1 or possibly 2 film cameras and me digi compact. I'll also have waterproofs and cold weather gear and a lot of DPM camouflage clothing - enough for 2 weeks that weekend will be the start of 2 weeks away from home as I'm heading south on the Sunday for my TA annual camp

You can't take sunsets from inside the pub!! Well I suppose you could take them from OUTSIDE the pub, pint in hand. Lisa.

Not long now
I'm probably going to be coming on the train now, so I'm hoping that those offers of people giving lifts over the weekend still hold ??
Haven't quite worked out the details yet, but hopefully I'll get there ahead of last orders!!! Is anyone else going by train? If so, where are you going to? As far as I can tell, somewhere called Lydney seems to be the nearest station.
carole PS Azzi Chris - I was having a little nose around other bits of the forum last night and saw a post you'd made about your experience of camera club members 'not getting your images' - sounds intriguing, I'm looking forward to seeing your approach .... or was it that you took along an entire collection of cow photos?? (how is that whole cow thing going ?)

Hi folks, Carole, I reckon Chepstow is a better option as its more of a main line station. I don`t know how others are arriving. It will be best if we organise collecting you once you know your arrival time. As for camera clubs, I just think I picked a bad one .I`m trying to set up a Flickr site - hard without home internet, but hopefully you can see some of the images they weren`t keen on soon. AP Chris - I`ll go for some film as well. Looking at your "kit bag" it seems you would have enjoyed the Brecon Beacons option...maybe next year. Chris

Carole, I really should read posts more carefully - I`m always speed reading them as I`m at work so shouldn`t be "here". Yes I think I`ve got over the "cow thing" now, with professional help. I really think the SPI should include a cow module in all their courses - the interpretations are endless..... Chris
