Hi All,
I'm hoping to get the Nikon D90 body along with the AFS 16-85mm lens.
The best bricks and mortar store price I've found it is in Middlesborough which sells the D90 body for £609 and the lens for £339.99, which makes the combo with shipping included @ £956, a good price indeed.
Unfortunately, I'm based in London and would rather pop down to a store in London to buy the kit. I don't mind paying around £50 more, call it London tax :-D.
Do you have any suggestion where I can get a good deal? Will any shop price match even?
Thanks and have a nice weekend!

Hi C_F_D,
Firstly, welcome to the AP Forums and, secondly, I would check out: Jacobs, Calumet, Grays, Harrods, Aperture and, of course, Jessops
Cheers and you have yourself a great weekend

I've bought Nikon Lenses from a company called Microglobe in London. Prices always seem more reasonoble there.

Microglobe's stock is often grey imports though.

Hello Jack,
Thank you for your suggestion. I went down to the Jessops @ Stockport (on vacation now) and they agreed to sell the D90 body only for £620, which is great considering its only £10 more expensive. If I don't get the D90 from Stockport, I do hope that Jessops in London will be just as flexible with the price (last time I bought from their flagship store on Oxford Street, the staff attitute and behaviour was a bit alarming, to say the least!).
Cheers.

I'd cross the road and go to Jacobs on New Oxford Street. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and good prices.

Thanks!
That's what I did. Popped down to the LCE @ Manchester (on vacation now) and bought the D90 with the kit lens. Got them to price match to Wilkinsons @ £749, which is £30 more than Internet prices (see Play.com), but that's something I have to live with.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the only thing that bugged me is that I ended up with the display camera (not the demonstration camera, but the one that was in display in shop front) as they claimed that that was the last one in-stock. After coming home, I have managed to find out a smudge on the LCD and the power cable seems to have been used before... not sure if I should be fussy about it. Should I?
Thanks.

I'm not sure you can be that fussy about it TBH. You accepted the display model so you cannot claim not to have known that it was not from a factory sealed box and therefore should be free of handling marks (a quick rub with a duster should clear the smudge on the LCD). As far as the power cable goes I guess it's possible than you have the box for the demo model - check that the serial number on the camera and lens matches any shown on the box or guarantee forms, if they're not the same then you have the wrong box and accessories. Of course even if they match they may have used the power cable from your camera with the demo model but even then it would be difficult to prove it...
I doubt that it will matter much if the cable has been used. As long as you register the purchase according to the guarantee requirements you are legitimately the first owner and if anything goes wrong with the camera or it's accessories during the guarantee period you simply claim against the guarantee as normal...

Hi El Sid,
I just also noticed that there's a dust spec somewhere inside the viewfinder, which pretty distracting since it appears like an extra focus point! Now I'm really worried :-(
Have a nice evening.

It might be stuck on the finder screen in the mirror box. If so a quick blow from a Rocket Blower should be enough to shift it. On no account rub the screen surface as these are quite delicate as a rule and easily damaged. It's worth getting a Rocket or similar anyway as they are a good way of getting rid of excess dust (though I think the D90 has sensor self cleaning routines built in).
If it is inside the finder chances are it'll eventually move or disappear as what gets in can usually get out again...
