Well, it seems we won't be seeing a Fujifilm DSLR any time soon or maybe even ever.
The new Fujifilm EXR sensor, won't be applied to DSLRs, even though it promises 800% DR, vastly improved noise,it is already developed and will equip Fujifilm compacts in the beggining of next year, according to the DPreview press release. Many expected that and many hoped for different news (I hoped), but it does seem that the bell has tolled for Fujifilm DSLRs. Oh well, maybe they will have something different in store for the DSLRs? (that's me hoping again)...

There's a difference between saying there are no plans for something or that something won't happen. Nikon never said that they wouldn't launch an FF DSLR, they simply did a good job at managing expectations so that there would be no danger of people not buying their other cameras in anticipation of FF.
Not that I disagree that it's possible in this case...

It would be a real shame as even the now outdated SR sensor still impresses me with all that DR and colour. I hope Fujifilm is also trying to manage expectations . I have the S3 and saw no need to buy the S5 and that was a big wait for a camera. I think many have done the same or simply moved on to other systems. They may end up in bad waters if this carries on I think. They said they are concentrating in compacts as this is their market and that they already have a product witht he EXR sensor. Perhaps a little testing of the waters? I am thinking they may come up with a S100fs type camera with the EXR in it.

It would be a shame in many ways if Fuji do pull out of the DSLR market but from a commercial point of view is there a strong reason to remain in it?
In some ways the S# Pro series are a bit of a "me too" product - made because they feel they should rather than a serious contender against the volume makers. Couple that to the the fact that they are essentially Nikons with modified internals and you have to doubt that they intend to put any major focus on developing their DSLR range...
Perhaps if the EXR technology really takes off in the compacts and proves to be everything Fuji claim they may decide to make an S6 with 30 million pixels...

With the body of the D3, 3 years down the line .
The S100fs has all the DSLR body for an entry level model.Upsizing it a bit may give a reasonbly good mid-range body, with some refining here and there. But they could be losing the Nikon lens mount by diverting away rom their bodies.Just a thought.

I really hope you are wrong, cameras area small enough as it is. Making them any smaller would be a disaster from my point of view. Leica have the right idea, keep the camera a comfortable size but increase the sensor size. As for Fuji DSLRs, I have mixed feelings, the latest offering would be much more acceptable if it used Nikon batteries as it could then be better integrated into a Nikon kit. Otherwise, the fact that the sensor interpolates to get to 12MP doesn't really inspire me. I had an S2 but it wasn't my favourite camera and I am much happier with the D2x. I very much doubt I will buy another Fuji DSLR but you never know, it depends on what they offer.

There will always be a market for dSLR's, I think, but technology means that "for the masses" the extra bulk and weight of a prism and mirror can be eliminated whilst still giving good results from a large sensor

In that case, I'll just wait until all we need to do is hold a sensor in our hands to take a shot . I'm sorry, but for me the whole thing is part of what makes photography fun,(having a nice big viewfinder, with a mirror that goes "slap, slap" when you press the shutter release, a bit of heft in the camera....), I find it hard to be totally sold on the smaller camera thing. I just went to the Al Quds demo, with my Minolta 7D +lenses and Kiev 6C plus lenses....someone called me crazy,...to which I agreed, but I feel pleasure in it .

How can it be? The whole system is defined by the size of sensor. If they used a larger sensor then it wouldn't be four turds.
