Who has A700 firmware v4 high ISO samples to show?
      #708498 - 19/09/2008 01:05

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has updated their Sony A700s to the newest firmware and switched NR off and produced or is willing to produce some high ISO samples (1600-3200) to show. If what they are saying is true (that it closes the gap in what concers IQ between the A700 and the D300) I am getting an A700 and end of story with my beloved but now faulty 7D.
The only thing is the battery grip for the Sony is still expensive . No camera of mine is without.

I updated my a700 to V4 when it first surfaced, unannounced and accidentally, a week or so back. As I never use high ISO I have nothing taken using earlier firmware to compare V4 with so I can only take what I see published on the web as true. It does seem very many people now think the a700 now compares well at high ISO with the Nikon. I've found the extra bracketing useful and I'm sure other tweaks have been incorporated as noise levels across the board seem to be better.

The vertical grip is quite expensive but it must be the best grip made for any camera! Far more than just an extra battery device, it duplicates all the controls and feel of the camera body. It's magnesium - not plastic. I wouldn't be without mine.

Best price I could find on the net is at Simply Electronics. I paid £220, including another battery, from Devon Cameras but that was nine months ago.

I got my battery grip from cameraworld for £160 at the same time that I ordered my A700 and spare battery from WHE.

I got my grip with my A700 from what was Photo Optix and they price matched to the web price of £169 at the time and a spare battery for £40.

While I was at work I had a quick browse on the net and I found a deal on a website which I think was called bestcamerabuy.co.uk and they had the A700 with 18-70 kit lens for £599. That was the best price I have ever seen!
The strange thing is now, I feel very tempted to get an A900 on finance...
