Rubbish. If you have a need for a high resolution camera this is exceptional. It makes it difficult to see many spending the extra on a 1Ds iii. The announcement has knocked me sideways. I was looking seriously at the Sony a900 but the Canon adds HD video (not that I expect much use for that) and live view. It is also light and small. What is there not to like about it?

Also, it only does 3.9fps which is frankly a bit low for such an expensive camera. Certainly it's being punted at more professional photographers, but it's rather negated its use for anyone who might do any sports coverage ever.

Isn't that what Canon make the 1D Mk III for? The forthcoming Nikon D3X (if indeed it does exist of course) is likely to, i) cost somewhat more than this, and ii) be similarly "lacking" in the frame rate stakes. Not all pro photographers need a kazillion frames per second (does that surprise you?), and indeed a few decades back sports snappers were happily using Rolleiflex TLRs or even 5x4" plate cameras to shoot football and the like.

Perhaps they learnt to anticipate the action...

But is still at least 39 times as fast as I need.
I'd far rather accept a low frame rate and a lower electronic noise profile as a result. (Yes, the two do go together!)

Or sports togs would buy a 1D MkIII or a D3 which they currently do.

Video review of the 5DM2
also whilst many are not interested in video at all the wildlife and journalist photographers/hobbyists etc are more excited about its inclusion. For me I was thinking of a 5D for macro work (specifically but not only) the inclusion of video confirmes for me that the 5DM2 is one that I want to aim for - macro video That and improved quality of the 5D - fps being low is sad but livable with

Sounds like it's many times faster than the compact I use for mountain bike pics...one frame every few seconds! Am quite happy leaving my 7fps SLR and 6.5fps DSLR at home for sports pics

Well it's nearly 1 fps higher than the 5D, and that's seldom proved to be a big problem for me...

HD video! FFS Why? If I want to shoot video, I use a bloody video camera, but at least it can be turned off!
It has Live View, which is utterly pointless, but that can also be turned off.
It's too Light and it's too Small....which can't!

Body and three lenses 4kg. Quite enough for me. I'd like it even better if it was the size and weight of my OM2. If you really like size and weight try my 4x5 setup.
