Dynax 404si
      #705477 - 12/09/2008 15:58

I have a Dynax 404si which I am very happy with, but I am now after some different lenses including a telephoto. Could somebody advise what to go for and also what specific mount I need ( is it a A Type bayonet ? )

I can't help you with lens recommendations particularly, but I can confirm you're right about the mount.

Ok, that's a starting point.

Thanks

Make sure it's Minolta/Sony type A bayonet (often referred to as MAF in ads) as there is also the Pentax KA and KAF fitting which is a different beast... you may also see Minolta lenses n MC or MD fitting - these are manual and not compatible with the Dynax series.

A good lens to go for is reputed to be the 70-210mm F4 "Beercan" lens - so called because of it's shape... A guy at work has one for his A200 and the pics look pretty damn sharp.

Nigel is right about the beercan, got one myself and it is very good even at f/4 also as well as being sharp it also has excellent Boke (note correct spelling not using the 'h' as most tend to)

The Michael Hohner site gives details about all the lenses that will fit Minolta Sony cameras and some have good reviews. If you give us an idea of the sort of focal length you are thinking of John, then between us we might be able to steer you in useful directions otherwise my recommendation is to go for minolta fixed aperture lenses such as a 300 mm f/4 HS APO G, (if you can find one) or the previously mentioned f/4 70 - 210
