FX55 - thanks to Geoffrey Crawley
      #704212 - 09/09/2008 22:31

I suppose I'm showing my age, but I really enjoyed reading Geoffrey's article on his "Green developer" in this week's AP (dated 13 Sept. 2008), and having dabbled in bread-making* (thanks to Ermintrude's thread a few weeks ago), I'll probably have a go.

*I'm using some of my photo darkroom gear to measure the water and get the correct temperature!

Yes, I've seen the formula and I think I'll give it a go. There's no exotica in there so it'll be easy enough to make. I think Geoffrey Crawley is owed a great debt of gratitude by all darkroom 'cooks' for making his formula(s) public. T.

I skipped this article thinking it would be of interest, but having spotted this thread I went back and read it. Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks for pointing it out.

I have been a fan of Geoffrey Crawley since the 1960's when he first published his articles in the British Journal of Photography- I still have the photocopies I made of them! At present I am trying his Acutol S formula diluted 1+1 and get some good results on 1996 dated Kodak T-max 100 rated at 50ASA as it is old, developed for 9 Mins @ 68oF. I tried some 1997 dated TMY 400 rated at 200ASA in my Rolleiflex 2.8F,did it in Acutol S 1+3 for 17 mins(I think it was),did a 20x16" print and got an award at my club! Thanks, Geoffrey, Keep 'em Coming,B/W home-brewers are NOT all gone yet!

Another big, if belated, thank you to Geoffrey Crawley for publishing his new green film developer formula. I would love to give it a try, and might do so!

More like this would be greatly appreciated!

How about a comparison of existing proprietary developers, is there really any significant difference between DD-X and Microphen etc etc.
