My new Sony A350
      #703760 - 08/09/2008 22:38

Following my post on the intermittent fault on my A100, bought the A350 today (just finished reading manual - phew!!)

First impressions are I like it. It is just as light as the A100 and I am impressed with the live view. Will try it out at my son's passing out parade tomorrow (Tuesday).

Despite picking up the camera from the shop, I still had to pay p & p. Reason? I was paying the web price and not shop price. One other thing, the 'helpful' man in the shop assured me that the battery was the same as in my A100. Not true.

Just a couple of questions, will I have to load the photo software that came with the camera for the pictures taken, and if for any reason I use my A100 will the new software support any pictures taken on that?

Many thanks.

Are you shooting RAW and if so what RAW converter do you use. If you only use the Sony software you'll need it on your computer if only for conversion. I'm pretty sure a100 RAW and a350 RAW are the same. Rog???

If you install the Sony software supplied with the a350 it will also read your older raw a100 files. If you use Adobe you'll need to download and install the <latest ACR 4.5>

Thanks guys. I thought as much. Have uploaded the new software.

Until I get the hang of the camera, will be shooting jpegs.

I am absolutely thrilled with it. Went to my son's passing out parade today, and despite only taking my Sigma 28-80mm 1:3.5-4.6 and shooting indoors without flash, glad I upgraded.

3 pics on exhibition.

You'll need to install the newer software if using raw,(it should'nt affect Jpeg's), I discovered that the Raw software that came with the A100 won't work with A200 Raw files (incompatible), so the same should be true of the A300 & A350.

Tried the camera at a gig last night (see post in Exhibition). Very impressed. The live view was very useful, especially as I could stand at the back and hold the camera above my head to take pictures.

Yet to try on landscapes, etc, but will do so in the coming weeks (still need to get an f2.8 24-70mm though).

Pictures from the gig can be seen here.
