The View From The North
      #688851 - 09/08/2008 10:40

www.theviewfromthenorth.org

I set this up last year to put online a mix of some of my better stuff, but it's recently become dominated by my industrial and urban exploration photos. It's been really interesting to hear from people who used to work at a lot of these places. Hopefully I've tried to capture the essence of a place in a slightly creative way!

Any comments and feedback is welcome!

Having been brought up in Cheadle, I had a look at your shots at the bleach works. I last visited the area 6 years ago, and it was derelict then.

To me, it's perfectly obvious why the place has been left to decay. It's prime real estate on the edge of Manchester, and with the works still standing there was a high risk that the site/works would achieve listed status. If funding was available to cover the additional costs that listing involves, I'd expect old buildings to be better looked after.

Funny you mention Cheadle Bleachworks, it's actually being converted to houses! Strange that one of the most ruinous sites I've been to is being preserved, and yet others that are in better condition and of more architectural interest have been demolished.

Very interesting site, my Dad used to live the opposite side of the canal to the flour mill in Burscough. It was a working mill then and his windows were always covered in a layer of flour. Didn't know it had closed.
