Hi folks, Just a prompt to ensure all those who expressed interest in meeting in the Wye Valley/Forest of Dean in Oct are still up for it. I have a few days off from today so I will be walking the itinerary which at the moment consists of; Day 1 Vist to Yat rock for views of Perregrines and Wye Valley, Coffee at Beechenhurst Lodge Forest of Dean then short route arround sculpture trail. Speech House Arboretum. Lunch Mallard Pyke and/or Cannop ponds. Symmonds Yat walk, visit to Butterfly farm. Return to St Briavels early Evening
Day2 Tintern and Tintern Abbey. Lunch Afternoon options still being considered..
All the above comprises short easy walking with places to stop for coffee etc. Of course the weather may have some influence so I will have to think of a plan B just in case.
Please indicate if you are still interested. Thanks, Chris

Hope they're still interested Chris, as they've all paid their money! (except Les of course).
Itinery looks good to me and can be flexible I suppose depending on weather and possible hangovers. I've got a diesel estate car so am willing to drive a couple of folks about for a small contribution towards the fuel.
The weathers going to be lovely I've decided....
I'll have to find out about the Medieval Banquet nearer the time.
Thanks for taking the time to sort some locations out Chris. Lisa.
PS I'll bring a hair dryer.

Hi Lisa,
I'm still in. Weather should be fine as I'm still waiting for the summer to start, or did I miss it. Don't need a hair dryer, a damp cloth washes and dried mine in one pass. If anyone needs a lift, I will be travelling down on the Friday from North Notts. Happy to make a detour to collect, if required. Chris, the locations look great. Must get some more memory cards.

hello everybody, sorry been away from the forum for a while, just been really busy, and not unfortunately with photography things
wow, sounds like we're packing a lot in for our trip! sounds great, Chris, thanks for organising. I look forward to picking everyone's brains and comparing results as landscapes are definitely not my strong point!
I think we need to cancel our accommodation and camp instead. I have just got back from a couple of days camping, and for the 3rd time running, the weather has turned out sunny despite wet forecasts. OK this time we had a big downpour one night, but considering it was threatening to chuck it down for a lot of the time and we were on instant alert to pack up and come home, it was a bit of a result to come back with a suntan
I don't think anyone will be coming from the same direction as me and I haven't worked out how I'm getting there yet, but it would be good to pile into 1 or 2 cars for driving around during the days. I'm happy to drive around as well (so long as I don't come on the train of course ..... then APChris would have to do the driving as I'm not qualified )
Carole
PS Azzi Chris, what are you doing now? did you decide to do another AP/SPI course, or are you doing other things?

PS are we intending to try for any sunrise/sunset shoots if the weather's suitable? By October, the times might not be too anti-social, and it's not something I get much opportunity to do (get woken at dawn plenty of times , just not allowed to leave the house with my camera ).
don't know it well enough, but was wondering if Tintern Abbey might be a good subject for something like that?
or is that confusing matters by adding in a plan C? (and scuppering plan A in the bar the previous night??!)

Hello Folks, Glad there is still some interest here! Well as promised I had a good wander round on Saturday. On Friday I went surfing for a few hours - I got wet - BUT not as wet and cold as I did on Saturday! It rained hard all day, some of the footpaths were ankle deep in liquid mud, the wind blew and it seemed strangely dark by 5pm - surely October can`t be as bad as that? Carole - I think I remember the Sun..I know some good places for sunsets though sunrises take a bit more effort. I found another bit of the forest with good photo opps - Puzzlewood - so I`ll add it to the list. Chris

Hi Keith,
sounds like you had a good time and took plenty of photos. I'm expecting to have a great time, whether it's outside taking pics or inside in the pub looking at the rain. Lisa.

Hi Chris,
that was a great idea to go round the itinery places - at least you know where the deep mud is. Don't worry - the weathers going to be great. I'm up for getting a sunrise one morning, don't think I could cope with 2 mornings though. I must check up what time breakfast is at the YH, though we don't have to have it, sure there's places selling bacon butties.
Has anyone had any more thoughts about inviting other togs or tutors? Lisa.

Hi Carole, Lisa, Carole, Sorry I didn`t read your post properly - I tend to rush. Since completing the Intro. course I moved onto the Foundation in Photography course - it`s much more about photography than image manipulation and ensures you get to practice and really get to grips with the essentials. It`s working - as quite a few people have asked me to take photos for them. Lisa - I`m trying to work out what a tog is! I am more than happy for tutors to come along - although they might have better ways of spending their weekends! Chris

Chris Being an oldie, I listen to Terry Wogan on Radio 2. TOG stands for Terry's Old Geezers.
I'll remember my zimmer frame for the meet in October, to help me get around. Les

Lisa/Les, Thanks for the explanations - I`m obviously not socialising with enough photographers - never heard them described as "togs" before. Les....I never hear Terry Wogans show as I`m usually in work by the time it starts but somewhere in my memory I recall him using the word also.
By the way Les, don`t worry, the trip will not involve strenuous walking - I`m selecting places with seating areas and coffee/tea facilities. Like Lisa, I may also need a Zimmer frame, I took quite a tumble last night so feeling battered and stiff this morning - I don`t bounce as well as I used to. Maybe its time to start listening to Terry Wogan. Chris

So what were you doing or what had you drunk Chris, to make you fall over? Lisa.

Lisa No drink at that stage, I just lost my footing while out running, I fell pretty heavily onto some stony ground. I don`t want any sympathy, its my wife who needs that - she just about tolerates my antics... Chris

Hello,
I am on the foundation in photography and I was wondering if this was open to all SPI students, or if there were any spaces open? I live in East Sussex and I am more than willing to drive people to and from and during.
It would be a fantastic experience to be with other fellow photographers!
Al

Hi Alan,
the original idea was a get together of folks doing the Digital Course as several (including me) are getting towards the end of it and it's not being carried on. We haven't quite decided yet about inviting other folks - waiting for some more opinions from the 6 people already going so I can't really say. Please watch this space.
Any thoughts - Les, Sheila, Chris, Chris & Carole?

No objections from me I'd be happy for other SPI togs and tutors to join us so Alan is welcome to join IMO, though he (and any others) would need to arrange accomodation or plan to join us on one or other of the days.
Now that our itinerary is firming up it should be easy for 'visitors' to spend as little or as much time with us as they want
