None that I'd want to air in public as most have been test shots while trying all the settings. Hoped to give it a good workout this weekend but had no chance in between raindrops As far as the tests have gone, I am very impressed with the image quality and the overall usability. Since I am on a learning curve as steep as the north face of the Eiger, I haven't actually worked out how to post pics anywhere yet!

Really happy for you about your E-520. And you do get a lot of camera for a very good price. I will almost certainly get one myself at some point so saving the pennies. Also, I just can't really criticise my E-500 in any respect to warrant abandoning it. I would like the IS though! That would be especially helpful for me with the 70-300mm, but I manage with careful handling.

Difficult decision Rob. I have to say though that IS is extremely good. I've taken some test shots at slow shutter speeds (i.e. approx 1/10 sec) and the pics come out very sharp. As you say, £500 for that extra functionality is a tough call. After all, a tripod (even if it is a bit of a pain to lug around and set up) is a helluver lot cheaper.
What I really like are the 'kit' lens's. Not the fastest on the planet but the image quality appears excellent. And the weight, well.... A friend of mine has got a camera that begins with C and ends with 40D complete with a lens that, whilst I'm sure is excellent, cost about the same as the camera body and probably weighs more as well. When she picked the e520 up she could not believe how light it was. Incidentally, we took some test shots in her garden with both cameras taking similar pics. After comparing the raw files afterwards we were both impressed with the Oly's performance. What differences there are ain't that noticeable. Pixel peepers can ignore the last two sentences as I'm sure that there are differences really!
It will be interesting to see where the next release of e series camera's goes. I think the megapixel race is beginning to lose a bit of steam (even my brother, who is to photography what Peter Kay is to 100m sprinting, knows that 10mp is over the top for most applications) and, I would have thought, that the challenge for Oly and Panasonic is to maximise the performance of the existing 4:3 sensor, if only to try and get rid of this noise issue. If I were you Rob, I'd hang on to your e500 and see what happens in the next few months.

Yes, I think you're right. It will be interesting to see what news is coming up. There seems to be rampant speculation at large about some big anouncement in August or at Photokina.
Instead of going for a new body, I've been slowly building up the lens side of things and I now have, in addition to my kit lenses, 50mm f2 macro, 70-300mm, and 8mm Fisheye. The latter is a lens which I was surprised to discover how much I loved and I use it a lot. I also agree with you about the quality of Oly kit lenses; they really are very good.
Interesting re your comparison with your friend's camera. A lot has been said about Oly IQ, but I've always maintained that any difference is not really meaningful in terms of how most people use their cameras. But you know what people are like about small things and I think the whole sensor-size debate has more to do with another well-known kind of size rivalry which men are prone to.

I think you'll find that when they publish 'how to get the best from your E3 by 'Ms 82%', things might get a bit sparkier.
Putting Angie in charge of an Oly article is a bit like putting Ghengis Khan in charge of a peace keeping mission! Brace yourselves ....
** tiptoes away before the moderators spot him **
PS: that, and the E30, and the new Micro System. Golly, it must be really boring to be a canikon user.

Rob, how do you rate the 50mm f2 Macro lens. Not just for macro work but also for portraits?

It's an excellent lens to use for portraits with lovely bokeh. Using a fixed focal length drew a few funny looks from the model and the others in my portrait group as I moved back and two to frame my shots, but they quickly got used to it. I love this lens, and I often pop it onto the camera just for general use because it gives such pleasing results.

Blimey, I must be psychic. I see next weeks AP has got a head to head between the e520 and the D40! Interesting comparison given how much cheaper the e520 body is. I guess lens selection for this head to head will also be interesting. Mind you, given my comments of a couple of days ago, I might just go into hiding and ignore it all

Being bigger, I predict the 40D will be found to make a better wheel chock than the E-520.

Look on the bright side, when the E-520 is proven to be inferior to the 40D we can always point out the difference in price.
Imagine if they'd used a 1000D in the comparison. It would be a clear winner too as it offers something that the Olympus doesn't, the letters C,A,N,O,N on the prism housing.

I confess my friends muscles are getting quite big lugging the Canon about Mind you, it does take a nice image as I guess all modern dslr's do. I'm reasonably sure the e520 punches above its weight but comparing it to the D40? It could be a bit of a David v Goliath chaps!
I think we should try some online betting. At what point do you think that the light weight, the superb dynamic range and image quality, and the excellent lens's (and not forgetting the excellent price!) of the e520 will be forgotten because a test image taken at ISO1600 that has been magnified 200x has found a few pixels that are a shade of grey instead of black? Probably being a bit cynical
