Hi all my first time here on a forum so I apologise for any mistakes I make. Have found the photography bug and currently own a JVC everio camcorder with 25gb hard disk, aso a Sony cybershot. I am currently thinking buying a Nikon D60 dlsr, i have read many reviews and get the impression this will be a good point to start with. being nikon fans on here may I have your opinion. Cheers

Hi there, just bought one of these as my first DSLR and i'm most pleased with it. The only gripe most seem to have is the 3 point auto focus but that's about it, very happy with mine but if you can strech to it get the VR twin lens kit.

Hi Carl,
Firstly, welcome to the AP Forums and, secondly, regarding the Nikon D60 (D40x and D40) camera(s) is that you are limited to Nikon (and Tamron/Sigma limited numbers of) AF-S lenses If You Want To Use Autofocus If you want to use a Nikon AF 50mm (or any other Nikon AF) lens you have too use Manual Focus only and this applies to the majority of 'aftermarket' (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc...) lenses .
However, if you move to a Nikon D80, D200 or D300, albeit at an higher price, you can use the AF or AF-S lenses
However, if you can live with using only the AF-S lenses (and I suspect you can ...... . . . .for the time being ) then I would go out and try a D60kit
Cheers,
Jack

Another D60 owner here and love the Camera, Brought the Kit 18-55 VR lens.
Make sure you purchase a SD card as they don't come with the Camera.

If necessary, haggle for it. There's a credit crunch and dealers need to know it. A premium brand 4GB card with a modest camera is the equivalent of mats and a full tank of fuel with a new car.

Good luck if you try in Jessy's, They wouldn't entertain a deal for me so i purchased the card elsewhere. Had to save face at that point

... why not do it for something useful ....like an additional lens, an add-on flash simply because memory is so inexpensive
And, BTW, I do not condone the act of haggling ..... . . . . .... mainly because I am on the other side of the counter but I realise that some people just have to do it ....even though they know they are already getting a very good deal
Cheers,
Jack

As you say memory is so cheap so throw it in. I would expect to pay for a lens.... But if it was a classy lens then perhaps a reasonable filter from the likes of Hoya would be a reasonable freebie. Times are hard and times in business even more so. I used to be very shy about this 'asking for extras' or discounts. Working in Kenya for a few years educated me. It works in Britain just as well in the right shops. Multiples are usually 'take it or leave it'. The assistants have no authority to offer anything. Independants are more flexible. Also remember that the infamous Jessies have rolling discount codes that often make them competative. I'm sure we all know on what website (not Jessies own) to find the codes. At present these only work for internet orders.
