Hello, XMP is not a photo file as such it is a metadata file with information about camera etc. A XMP file is created automatically whenever you open a RAW file , it is stored next to the RAW in the same folder. What were you doing when you "lost " your file, try to remember the sequence of opening ,saving etc. You are perhaps looking for your file in the correct folder but with the file type not set to the type saved.Try going to the folder where you think they may be, click on the file window and select " all formats " .Do this of course within Elements. Come back with more information and we'll try and find them Don PS. You could also look using Windows search facility quoting picture files and perhaps the dates.

Hi Don I downloaded from card into ps/6 then went into edit. I then went to quick edit where as i went tnrough my downloads was asked to save to jpeg i did this.THen had a few hiccups trying to send to desk top folder, did it cant remember how. Opened folder half were olympus raw and have started opening up under this in edit, others xmp.Totally confused by then . Raw working fine though even managed to put on disc. Those xmp cannot find anywhere. Would i be better deleting all and re-downloading card, as its obvious i cocked it all up and never knew what xmp was till you explained it. i now have tutorial disc for ps6

I assume that you took your originals in RAW if so then why not make a new folder called RAW to download your card to,then open in Edit do your alterations then do any editing in Elements before saving in whatever format you wish. Save to another new folder clearly named to avoid confusion.Being methodical helps when you have lots of files and lots of folders. Watch your tutorial until there comes the magic moment when you suddenly realise that you understand. Don
