Hi all,
Nikon is offering a buffer upgrade for the D3, to increase Lossless NEF capture from a depth of 16 shots to 36 for £300.

When the camera can do 9 fps, it runs out of buffer in less than 2 seconds in the worst case, so this upgrade makes sense to me, sensibly priced as well.

With the capabilities of that camera, why did they not make the buffer bigger to start with?

The upgrade is a hell of a price for a bit of memory. Perhaps that's why they are selling it as an add on.

Why not just shoot at a lower frame rate? Precisely how many subjects do you actually need 9fps for?

That really must be a sign of global warming - our tortoise back in the '50s moved at a glacial pace.
