I used to have a Canon SLR and a Nikon SLR but moved to an Olympus bridge Digital Camera as I couldn't afford a digital SLR. I'm thinking about buying a DSLR now but not sure what to go for. I have a Sigma zoom 75-300 lens for my old Nikon which I would like to use if possible and I just wondered if it would work with the Nikon D60/D70 or D80? From what I can see, the D60 only allows manual focus. Is this right and would anyone recommend either of the 3 cameras? I don't know whether I'd be better going for a Canon rather than Nikon, it just seems sensible to try and get the use out of the lens. Does anyone know how I find out if that lens is compatible with any of the Nikon's? Thanks

Welcome Jake!
The Nikon low end DSLRs (D40, D40x & D60) don't have an AF motor, so to get AF you need a lens with a built in motor, either Nikon AF-S type or Sigma HSM, or equivalent from other manufacturers. The D70 and D80 do have the AF motor, so will provide AF with any AF lens.
I wouldn't say that compatibility with your old lens should be your first priority of camera choice, but it might be a useful bonus. More importantly, look at the features you require, and see if you can get to a camera shop to try out how they feel in your hand.

I just got a D60 Twin lens kit for my first DSLR and am very happy with it, doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive one's but takes lovely pics even in my incapable hands
