Really getting into my Samsung GX-1L with the 18-55mm kit lens. Now want to explore what film KAF2, KAF, KA mount lens and make to look out for and what to avoid on this DSLR. I know i'll loose auto focusing functionality but that's not a problem to me.
This would be an economical way to utilise a telephoto, macro lens especially. Would love a newer Sigma 18-200mm or Tamron 18-250mm but that's out of my price range.
Unless you all think for example digital lens such as Pentax 50-200mm f/4-5.6 DA ED Lens or Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro would be better in the long run. Which is more in my price range

Definitely NOT: Anything that is PKR/Ricoh mount, they tend to get stuck permanently on a PKAF mount...
Personally wouldn't touch the superzooms....
Would recommend: Pentax DA 55-300, a bit more expensive than the DA 50-200, but worth the difference I believe...If however, you have a film SLR (with K-mount)you still use then I would recommend the Sigma 70-300 APO DG macro...
Hope this helps

Thanks for reply. I have a Cosinon Auto MC F:1.7 f=50mm no.793662 which works well with a 1.5x-22 Vivitar teleconverter. I'll find a use for it. The teleconverter didn't work well with the Scheinder Kit lens though. Just need to crack my telephoto conundrum.
Haven't used film in years. So I haven't to worry about that.

So far gone with a Pentax SMC M 80-200mm manual telephoto. A joy to use.

Mark, I use the Sigma 70-300mm, and for the money it's a good lens. Not the fastest at focussing, but what is on the Pentax!!!. On my K10 it gives good sharp shots and teh 1:2 macro facility is useful too.

Dave I did think about the Sigma but my budget would only afford me the Non APO version. So held off after reading about it and other peoples recommendations.
The Pentax feels right when handled in use. Hard to qualify but to my hands feels consistently reassuring in the use of the zoom and focusing. There's no A setting so it's all manual but that doesn't bother me. So it's only as fast as me... No macro but i'll get a macro lens or extension tubes at some point later. Pleased with the image quality with the usual caveats at either extreme ends of the focal range. Works very well with my GX-1L.
Was worried at first about having such a focal range in use of 120 - 300mm on my DSLR. Particularly at the low end. But that's usable. I just have to move away from subject or use my kit lens.

Still available second hand (sorry pre-used) is the f/4 SMC Pentax A one touch zoom. it is manual focus, but simply a cracking lens with a nice out of focus soft transition. It is also f/4 over the full zoom range and gives 105 to 315 equivalent on the K10D / Samsung body. I have been using mine for years and it still pleases me. It takes a 58mm filter.
The one touch, by the way, means one large control ring twist to focus and slide to zoom.

And if it the Non-SMC version, the zoom creep is not a "zoom creep" it is like a "greased kid on a water slide" but can still give quite sharp results as well as allowing all the features of the camera with the exception, of course, of AF
