They've made some big errors in the last year - the rootkit they installed on everyone's PC who used their gear really dented their rep. Everyone connected with PCs boycotted them, and recommended others to do the same.
The other thing is they are being mashed by Nintendo in the game console race (as is MS) and have long held themselves to be above everyone else, which means if they fall, they fall hard.

If they concentrate on the things they have always been good at (small, quality products for example) then they will do fine.
The fact that they produce the sensors for Nikon (and others I assume) will hold their heads up as teh DSLR market takes off in the lower end.

I noticed that the phone side of the company Sony Ericsson is to axe 2000 jobs, and they partly blame a reduced market for mid to high end camera phones. Could this be a result of the fact that the camera phones are so good that more are getting into photography but instead of shelling out on expensive camera phones they are buying cameras instead. I would also think a contributing factor would be the fact that most phones are part of a contract and so like me,the user gets a new phone free each year. I don't have to fork out dosh for a new phone,so surely that means that SE is getting less of our money!
