For those interested, the 1D MkIII series AF MicroAdjust settings data can be found for each (jpg) image using Canon's Zoombrowser Ex 5.8 under "Shooting Information" visible when in Preview Mode. So far, I haven't found this data using Breezebrowser or Canon's DPP.
All I need now is a decent test target which quickly and unambiguously tells me when I've found best focus position! (I am aware of the LCD moire methodology, but I use a CRT monitor.)

Google for a video camera back focus chart.
looks like a very high contrast dartboard and is ideal.

Thanks for the suggestion - I spent much of yesterday evening Googling for a downloadable Siemens Star test chart. There's plenty available but mainly illustrating web articles etc., and consequently they're jpegs and already limited in resolution. (I did find one in svg format but I'm not sure whether I can print from an svg file.)
What I need to get the best out of my printer is something in vector graphics, so I gave up and loaded up an old copy of AutoSketch and drew my own. I've now added labelled concentric circles so that it should be easier to guestimate where the detail extinguishes. Here's hoping!

Why not use a real star field instead? IMHO there is nothing more critical of lens performance, or indeed accuracy of focusing.
