I recently brought a digital Canon SLR for my mother. She is really enjoying using it, but has now moved on to thinking about printing at home. I'm thinking of getting her a Canon pixma 4500 printer. I have two questions 1) Do people think this is a good choice against dye-sublimation printers? 2) What digital paper would you use - is it really best to stick with Canon or what about own brand papers like Jessops own?
The 4500 is a sensible budget printer and I can't see you going wrong with it. It is more versatile than a dye sub printer which is only realy any use for photographs. The five tanks should make for reasonable ecconomy and the duplex printing might be a useful novelty particularly as Canon does a two sided photo paper.
Canon paper is fine and I would suggest your mother starts with the Canon range and then experiments later if there is anything she is dissatisfied with.
