I was hoping to get this for my Sony A700 as it's half the price of the Sony one. I contacted what used to be Photo Optix in Aylesbury as they've always sourced whatever I've needed and price matched to the internet. Turns out that the Mark II has just been released and Sigma has no more Mark Is in Sony fit. The Mark II is only due out for Sony in September and is over £100 more expensive than the Mark I.
Does anyone on here know of anywhere selling the Mark I in Sony fit? More importantly, is this a decent alternative to the Sony G lens? Should I buy the Mark II when it's released in September or should I push the boat out for the G lens?
Thanks

I own neither but the one point that stopped me getting the Sigma a while back is the long minimum focussing distance of 1800cm. Apart from that it seems a good lens, not as good as the Sony, but look at the price difference!
PS
There's one here if you really can't wait

Thanks Roger
Not too keen on the ebay option so think I'll wait until September. I've got some redundancy coming at the end of August, so may weigh up my options then.

I don't know about Sony mount, but someone mentioned in a recent thread that Jessies of all people are selling the Sigma at an excellent price (presumably end-of-line Mk 1 type), so for once it might be worth checking them out.

I picked one up off of e-bay for about £180 a while back. It's the old slide focus type, but absolutely brilliant for my band work.

Nope it was the HSM... £514, the only difference I can see is they claim the HSM II will have better optical performance. But it's pretty good already. Jessies don't seem to be stocking the HSM for Sony at the moment from what I can see.
