There's a thread on DPR where a rumour of a semi-pro Oly camera between the E520 and E3 is being discussed. Rumours are rumours but someone found a trade mark application for E-30 I can't make the links work (it says "unrecoverable data") but the application is real - I've seen it with my own eyes. So, you'll either have to take my word for it or find the thread on DPR.

There is some news to come in August, the selected few have been in the Far East a month or so ago visiting factories etc and are prohibited from commenting on trip. We shall see.
I took the E3 to Lowestoft air show yesterday and it was a bit of a frustrating time. If there is a new body i hope the AF is improved. It didn't seem to like the quick stuff head on. Excellent show with Vulcan, Red Arrows and Typhoon but they refused requests from an Oly used to slow down!

Hope you enjoyed the Vulcan. I saw it on a practice flight gaining its approval certificates.
What lens were you using?

Hi,
I was using E3 with 50-200 SWD and EC1.4
Here are a couple of images from yesterday.

Good shots - first time I've seen the Vulcan with the bomb bay doors open.
I'm surprised that you had difficulty tracking as your lens isn't short on max aperture. But then I've got blurred shots which I thought should have been easy for the AF to cope with.

When the planes were starting a pass i would lock on and then track and then lose focus and the camera would hunt. The problem in some ways is that there are so many variables in AF and combine that with operator error it is difficult to get consistent results. Perhaps the answer is more practice!

I don't know the E3 but is there an option to slow down the speed at which the AF starts to hunt for a new target? On my EOS 1D MkIII there's a setting with, I think, 5 different settings, and Canon often advise setting this to a slower rather than faster setting.

Just had a brief look on DPR forums - didn't notice the chat about an E30 but did see a lot of talk about AF problems with the e520. Anyone know about anything about this?

There are different settings but with something like an air show you would be forever customizing the point of focus, sensitivity etc. even as you were trying to track. I'm not saying the camera hasn't produced some nice image using IS etc but it should be more consistent. The reality is each each aircraft by its very nature of construction requires varying settings to show it at its best. Trying to combine that with inconsistent AF issues is at times very frustrating!

The thread is here.
And the poster who tracked down the trade mark application is here.
Follow his link to the Japanese Trade Marks site and enter application number 2007-111337 into the "Application number" search (bottom right). Then select "Index" and you should then see Reg. No.5137967. Click on that and you will then see the application complete with E-30 graphic.

Ok, the link to the Japanese Trademark Database appears to be working now, but you'll have to enter the data manually from there.

Thanks for the rumour
If only this rumour could get together with the one I started last week, now that would be a very desirable camera

That would be quite a good name for a camera "The Rumour" with "Rumax" lenses.

Quote from a post on an American website:
Quote:
I received me E-510 news letter from Olympus today in my e-mail. It was very strange to see Olympus advertising the E-330 and touting the abilities of the 330's Live View & the articulated LCD. I think it was the same video ad they used to announce the E-330 when it came out. It looked like oly just came out with the E-330 and I actually clicked on the link to see if they were selling it again. The link took me to archived products and they aren't selling it by the way. At least not for now.
Why would Olympus do this with an out of production product?
What are the chances that the coming E30 will really be a replacement for the 330 and someone is drumming up a bit of interest?

Talking of which, how about this:
"Tokyo, 5 August 2008, Olympus Imaging Corporation (Olympus Imaging) and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) today announced joint development of technologies and devices for the "Micro Four Thirds System standard," a new standard that extends the benefits of the Four Thirds System standard for interchangeable lens type digital camera systems by enabling dramatic reductions in size and weight. Under the terms of an agreement between the two companies, they will work jointly toward commercial production of significantly lighter and more compact interchangeable lens type digital camera systems."
