Personally, I blame Fen. He's defected to the dark side.

Canon may still recover once Fen finds the error of his ways.

Maybe it's all to do with the recent successful 'cashback' promotions.

I wonder if Canon's eternal delay on replacing the 5D plays any part on this.

I mean, Nikon don't seem to think twice to release another full frame 'semi-to-pro' DSLR.

I doubt it, people are still buying the original one ... more likely the bad publicity over the AF problems with the 1D mk III

The report says that camera sales are still on the up so I would guess that its the printers and photocopiers etc that are suffering the bigest downturn.

Possibly a factor, but the strong Yen and global economic downturn are likely to be the real culprits. According to the Beeb's World Business Report this morning Sony's own quarterly profits are down by a whopping 50%, so by that standard Canon are actually doing pretty well! They did say it was mainly due to their mobile phone division though. There was a mention of the photographic imaging side of Sony too, but I was in the kitchen and couldn't quite hear the details.

I so have to smile at the so called 'free market economy' -Profits are down 50% etc etc .. well that's still a bloody profit and everything has a finite limit.

According to Chris' news report:
