Any CIS (Continuous Ink System) users here?
      #682353 - 23/07/2008 22:48

Just wondering whether any of the CIS match the colour I get from my Epson Photo printers? I've got an old but trusty A3+ Epson 1270, and a newer A4 R220. So far, I've always used genuine Epson Inks and normally Epson paper with very few problems. (I've done a few searches and I'm aware of the need for a chip resetter, potential waste ink problems etc.)

It's all the fault of this week's AP with its special feature on printing, and the Epson R2880.

Thanks for any pointers.

Angela tested the permajet system for the R2400 some time ago, but found slight variations in the colours. perhaps not enough to be a real problem, unless you are wanting or needing near perfection. But why buy a perfection printer and then downgrade the output?

I have always found that Epson Ink on Epson paper was the best way to get the best results. I have not needed to venture into ultra high quality third party papers as I do not sell my images at present. Epson also produce high qaulity art papers, so I would try these firat anyway. It is really a matter of degree and personal choice.

On a new printer, of course, you risk invalidating the warrantee.

Thanks for your reply - I'd forgotten that Angela had published the results of her tests. I had to replace an ink cartridge earlier today, and doing a quick search on the web it looks as though genuine cartridges for my Epson R220 are getting more difficult to find, so naturally I checked out the CIS systems as well.

With respect to third party papers, I'm very happy with Pictorico Glossy Film which I think is no longer available in the UK, and currently I'm assessing samples of Hahnemuhle which seem pretty good. Colours match Epson well, and so far the paper stays flat after printing, unlike my last samples (from a UK supplier) which claimed to stay flat and didn't.

I use the Lyson system on a R1800 and am very happy with it.
